Chalk pastels. A lot of times I try to illustrate what I am writing. It doesn't always pan out the way I see it. I'm glad typing is easier for these fingers than managing a brush.

The above illustration was my own rendition of a small black and white version drawn by Nora S. Unwin found in my favorite children's book The Princess and the Goblins. Her illustrations complete the work.

My favorite coloring utensils have always been the modest ink pen and a watercolor pad. Less vibrant than oil paints, but the more economical choice for a student on a budget.
